Intro to my life pt.2

Every day in Hawaii, the news goes on in the morning from roughly 4-8am, and also at 5 pm, 6 pm, and 10 pm.  On days that I am not working with Oceanic sports, I am at 801 South King St, home of KITV 4 news (channel 6 on basic cable and 1006 on HDTV) and just like my career with Oceanic sports I love everyday that I am working at the news station.  KITV is run by the Hearst Corporation which is in charge of 29 television stations across the U.S.
I have been working at KITV for 4 years now in the production dept.  In those 4 years I have tried my best to learn as much as I can from the experts.  I am a "Jack of all trades" guy at the station.  I do everything from teleprompter all the way to directing a newscast.  The great thing about being involved with a newscast is the fact that everyday is not the same.  There is a new story everyday and things are changing constantly.  Another time when things are changing by the second is when there is a natural disaster or breaking news that the public MUST know about.
The big scare for everyone in the news television business today is the fact that most people, who are ironically my age, are not getting their news from television.  Most people nowadays get their news from websites and apps on their mobile devices.  KITV and every other news organization out there has to try and figure out how to combat this sweeping phenomena.  It is very interesting to see how this will all pan out.

Intro to my life pt.1

These television stations are the homes of high school and University of Hawaii sports.  Most people don't know what happens behind the scenes.  They don't know what goes into making some of their favorite sports events come on television.  My career is the television business and more specifically the news and sports side of television (ill talk about my news career next week.)  I am a technical director.  I run the switcher which is similar to a live editor.  I "edit" together different aspects of the show including different camera angles, digital effects, per-recorded material, and graphics.   You may never see me if you visit a live event but I am always there.

I love the fact that I get paid to watch my favorite events and I hope to one day work for some of the biggest names in sports.  If you've watched a local sports broadcast recently I would love to know what you think about our programming.  Until next week folks!
